The
first annual Chinook Lobster Fest was held at the Garden Court at
Spruce Meadows last Friday (June 21st), attended by over 250
Rotarians, guests, and Opimian society members (thanks to John
McBean), on a beautiful first day of summer evening. |

Lobsters,
steaks, chowder, salads, bread and dessert were on the evening’s
menu (and a few people’s shirts too) as club members pitched in to
set up, prepare, and finally sit down and eat.
A
spirited live auction, led by Darrel Domes (of All Appraisals &
Disposals Ltd, www.all-sold.com), and numerous silent auction items
raised approximately $10,000 which will be used for SUPERKIDS, a
Calgary Police Service program, and other community programs.

SUPERKIDS
is a new Calgary Police Service pilot project to
recognize the "super" contribution of kids to the quality
of life in Calgary.
Uniformed constables in District 6 will be recognizing and
rewarding young people, aged 6 to 13 years, by handing out SuperKids
coupons to deserving children. The coupons are given at the
discretion of the officers and may be awarded for such things as
wearing a bike helmet, crossing the street safely, helping out a
neighbour or picking up trash. The coupons can be redeemed at any
location of the three product sponsors, Dairy Queen, 7-11 or Rogers
Video.
"This is a very exciting program, created because we want
to acknowledge some of the positive contributions so many young
people make every single day," said Constable Eleanor Wagner,
the project's creator and coordinator.
